Hainsey is an upgrade over Hunwick. Not tons, but we can't forget like almost two season's worth of simply terrible hockey for Hunwick against soft competition.
Hainsey has played against tough comp his entire career and is a PK horse.
Not loving that he's in our top 4, but I think he's a perfect 5. |

Hunwick also got 3 years. Hainsey at two years is a huge upgrade! |

Sounds like Leafs are still working on a few things. Hainsey will not be a top four guy. He's a 5/6 guy. They could still add one of Miller, Barrie or Manson, while none of these are really outstanding top four guys, each would represent a significant upgrade on Marancin, Marchenko or Polak.

The Leafs are still trying hard for a D...
If everything fails they will at least sign Franson to stop gap until the deadline or next offseason |

Yes, I agree, and Carrick played less than either Polak or Maracin last year. The Swedes did not play. I woud say Dermot is more likely than the Swedes at this point as well.

Doubt it with Franson, but JVR plus for a d-man looks like what they are trying to do now. After that there's a chance they sign Marleau. |

So we all know Price is the best goalie in the world, but the true question is: can you win a cup when you goalie is making 10 million? Seems like the recent cup teams have purposely had lower paid goalies that allowed them to allocate money for strength up the middle? Who are the Habs centers right now? |

I wouldn't pay anything over 7 million for a goalie..all they have to do is be good and get hot come playoff time.
No need to pay 10.5 for one. Especially for 8 years at 30 years old |

As an absolute last resort I can see it...he had success with the Leafs and with Gardiner.
But I'm sure the Leafs are doing everything they can to not go to that.

Price contract is a problem, but not the only one. Team is very old, no scoring and very few young top tier players. Drouin is ok, but Habs will be tearing it down sooner than later.

Goalies help but they aren't the main piece
Chicago won it with different goalies different years.
Ditto Bruins I believe.
Ditto Pens. |

Yep. I'd take an Andersen or Jones at 5-6 million over a 10.5 million Price. That's me anyways. |

Exactly. A solid goalie who gets hot in the playoffs is better then a 10.5 million goalie that is constantly relied upon for his teams success. I would much rather have Freddy at his cap hit that allows us to sign MAtthews, Marner and Nylander. I realise the Habs dont have those type players, but it seems they are in limbo and will remain there. Making the playoffs, perhaps winning a round (on the back of Price), but never getting any young franchise players...
